Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our blockchain logging service
Logging data to a blockchain provides several unique advantages over traditional logging systems:
- Immutability: Once data is written to the blockchain, it cannot be altered or deleted, ensuring the integrity of your logs.
- Timestamp Verification: Each log entry includes a cryptographically verified timestamp.
- Decentralization: Your logs are distributed across the blockchain network, eliminating single points of failure.
- Audit Trail: Perfect for compliance and legal requirements where proof of data existence is crucial.
We chose Bitcoin SV (BSV) for several compelling reasons:
- Low Transaction Costs: BSV offers significantly lower fees compared to other blockchains, making it cost-effective for frequent logging.
- High Throughput: BSV can handle thousands of transactions per second, ensuring your logs are processed quickly.
- Data Capacity: Unlike other blockchains, BSV allows for larger data storage per transaction, perfect for detailed logging.
- Stability: The BSV protocol is stable and doesn't undergo frequent changes, ensuring long-term reliability.
There are a few common reasons why a blockchain log/transaction might fail or be delayed:
- Plan Type: Free plans do not write to the blockchain, this is intended only give a demo of the system before you subscribe. Paid plans have a limit of 1500 logs per day. This is a balance between typical use cases and cost effective operation.
- Rate Limiting In order to maintain a stable service serveral rate limits are in place on our systems and our partners. Its possible we will accept your log entry but the transaction does not reach the chain right away. We will continue to submit valid logs to the chain as fast as possible. During busy times this could mean there is a delay of several hours before your log is confirmed on the chain.
- Transaction Size If the transaction size exceeds the maximum allowed size by our mining partners you log entry might be rejected. Most miners on BSV will accept transactions up to 10MB, but some may have lower limits. It is best when working with large data to break it up into smaller chunks for blockchain logging.
- Mining Fees We dynamically calculate the mining fee for you, while unlikely it is possible miners will reject a transaction that they do not feel pays enough. If this happenes, try again later, our team will have been notified and will make the adjustments required behind the scenes.
Yes, all data is encrypted using industry-standard AES-256 encryption before being stored on the blockchain or in our database. This ensures that:
- Only you can read your log data
- Data is encrypted both in transit and at rest
- Each user has their own unique encryption key
- Even we cannot read your encrypted data
Encryption is crucial for several reasons:
- Privacy: While blockchain transactions are public, encryption ensures your log contents remain private.
- Security: Protects sensitive information from unauthorized access.
- Compliance: Helps meet regulatory requirements for data protection (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
- Control: Only you have access to your data, even if it's stored on a public blockchain.
Yes, you can request your encryption key by contacting our support team at [email protected]. Please note:
- You'll need to verify your identity
- Store your key securely - it cannot be recovered if lost
- Never share your encryption key with anyone
- We recommend using a password manager to store your key
- We take no responsibilty for the security of your logged data once the key has been shared
Log retention depends on your plan:
- Free Plan: Logs are retained for 30 days
- Paid and Premium Plan: Logs stored on the blockchain are permanent and immutable
- Database Logs: Retained according to your plan limits
- Custom Retention: Contact us for custom retention policies
We offer multiple ways to get support:
